Some gifts travel further than you'd ever imagine. This one ended up inspiring El Camino, our latest collection. But before that, it passed through a second-hand shop in the United States, travelled with me to Mexico, and eventually found its way into a friend's home.

It all started with a book

A friend gave it to me before my trip to Mexico in 2017. When I returned to Spain in 2020, I passed it on to Diego. Yes, the very same Diego who's behind the camera in our MEXAS photos today. But the important part of this story is that he kept the book... and years later, I opened it again.

And there it was: Mexican craftsmanship and an old map showing how to cross the border at Nuevo Laredo. Right when we were dreaming up a new collection. Coincidence? Maybe.

Inspiration appears when you least expect it.

The map that inspired the design of El Camino

We scanned that map and started working with it. Its lettering, lines and routes inspired everything from the typography and graphic elements to the design of our new soles.

This year, we wanted every little detail to have a special meaning. That's why we incorporated the map into the soles of our new collection, along with a phrase that captures who we are: “WE HONOR THE HANDS”.

A little tribute to the skilled hands that bring our huaraches to life, the craftsmanship behind them and the knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

And that's how El Camino was born. A collection that brings together something deeply personal to me: my travels, the people I've met and all those experiences that end up changing you without you even realizing it.

The evolution of our Mexas

At MEXAS, we're still doing things our own way, and this year our shoes have evolved too.

We've introduced new, lighter and more flexible Microtech soles, improved the fit around the ankles and given your toes more room to move thanks to our new FLOR last. And of course, we couldn't forget about color! We're always adding new options so you can find your favorites.

Our first fitting event

And if there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that we all have our own paths, and no two are quite the same.

That's why this year we hosted our very first fitting event. A small get-together with some of our MEXAS friends, where we got to explore different foot shapes and help each of you find the MEXAS that fit you best.

It was one of those experiences that reminded us why we do what we do: we want to be there for you every step of the way, wherever life takes you.

And as if this year hadn't brought enough exciting things already, we've also had plenty of reasons to celebrate! Because what better way to wrap up 2026 than with an award?

We won bronze in the Best Challenger eCommerce category at the Ecommerce Awards España 2026! An award we're incredibly excited about, and one that belongs to the entire team behind MEXAS and, of course, to all of you who continue to believe in us.
