Your transition to barefoot: how to start with MEXAS respectful footwear
Some decisions are made in an instant... and others need time.
Changing footwear isn’t just about changing shoes. Sometimes it means changing the way we walk, our posture, our sensations. And like everything related to our body, it deserves to be done without rushing, listening to what we need at every moment.
At MEXAS, we’ve been exploring the world of barefoot footwear for a while now, with models that respect the natural shape of the foot, without imposing a heel or artificially shaping the way we walk.
But we know that not everyone is at the same point. That’s why we created our TRANSITION models.

Between pure barefoot and traditional shoes, there's an alternative
“Purist” barefoot shoes have what is known as zero-drop: the sole is completely flat, with no elevation between the heel and toes. This is the closest option to walking barefoot and can offer many benefits… but it can also feel intense if you’re not used to it.
That’s why we design models that offer that freedom of movement, but with a slightly thicker or more cushioned sole, no heel, uniform height, and just the right flexibility so every step feels natural without forcing the change.
These are shoes that do not press, do not squeeze, and do not demand total commitment from day one. They are the middle ground many of you were looking for without even knowing it.

If, on the other hand, you already know you want to take the step toward pure barefoot, you can discover how we bring into our designs in the new MEXAS barefoot 2026.
Every body has its rhythm (and that's okay)
There’s something important we want to make clear: there is no single “correct” way to walk.
Sometimes, when you start learning about barefoot or respectful footwear, you can feel a certain pressure: that it has to be zero-drop or nothing, that the sole has to be as thin as possible, that only then is it truly respectful. But at MEXAS, we believe that every body has its own rhythm and every person, their own path.
Listening to your body is always more valuable than following a label.
If you feel like trying pure barefoot, go for it. And if you prefer a transition model because it better fits what you need today, that’s okay too. You’re not failing anyone.
BAREFOOT VS TRANSITION
What you told us (and why it matters so much)
Because at MEXAS we love listening, we spoke with many customers to learn about their experience. Some had been using barefoot for a while, others were just starting. And others simply wanted a comfortable, beautiful, well-made shoe.
These are some things we heard again and again:
1. "I'm interested in barefoot, but I need a little more sole"
Many told us they had tried completely flat shoes… and that, although they liked the idea, they felt they could become uncomfortable after hours of wear. A little more thickness or a softer base is appreciated, especially at the beginning.
That’s why the transition collection incorporates that gentle height that provides immediate comfort and makes the change feel much friendlier, especially if you’re coming from traditional footwear.

2. "I didn't know what drop was"
This was one of the most common phrases. Many people don’t know the technical term, but they do understand when we talk about “uniform height,” “no heel,” or “level sole.” In the end, it’s about speaking their language: the language of how walking feels.
3. "I don't care whether it’s barefoot or not, as long as it’s comfortable”
Because it confirms something we deeply believe in: comfort, freedom, and the feeling of walking matter more than any label. If the body feels good, everything else fades into the background.

4. “Barefoot caught my attention, but if it had been called ‘respectful footwear,’ I probably would’ve bought it anyway”
Which tells us that there’s a lot of interest in this type of footwear, because it reminds us that what matters isn’t the name, but how it feels. Talking about respect for the body, the natural shape of the foot, and comfort is still the best way to explain what we do.
5. “I need something that doesn’t squeeze my toes”
Especially for medium, wide, or bunion-prone feet, the front area makes the difference between a shoe you wear once… and one you never want to take off.
That’s why our models are designed with a wide toe box and real space in the front, so the foot feels supported, comfortable, and free at the same time.

And best of all:
many of you told us that if, in the future, we released models with a little more sole or even a platform (always with uniform height and no heel), you would keep choosing MEXAS without hesitation, as long as the comfort and design remained the same.
And good news! That idea is already reflected in our transition and platform collections, and will continue to shape the way we design at MEXAS: listening to every step so we can keep evolving with you.

Walking calmly is also walking well
That’s why we believe that the transition to barefoot is not a “halfway” solution, but a real and valid option for many women. Comfortable, respectful, and beautiful footwear that supports the change without forcing anything. It may also happen that there is no change at all, and you simply discover that this type of footwear (with a wide toe box and a soft, flexible sole) is where your feet feel best.
Because it's not about getting there first, but about feeling good with every step.
If you’re looking for a shoe that gives you freedom, but also a bit of structure and adapts to you without demanding drastic changes, take a look at our transition collection and find the model that best suits your feet.
