New FLOR last: a truly respectful barefoot sandal

The last is the foundation of any well-designed shoe — and in barefoot footwear, it matters even more. The new FLOR last was developed after carefully analyzing our 2025 customer feedback and refining every key detail to create sandals with a wide toe box and natural foot alignment .

We named it FLOR in honor of our product designer, who has worked meticulously on every improvement.

What are barefoot or eco-friendly sandals?

Barefoot sandals are a type of footwear that respects the natural shape of the foot and how it should move. They allow the toes to spread freely and maintain a zero-drop stride, more aligned with our natural way of walking.

Unlike traditional footwear, they don't compress or force the foot to adapt to the shoe; instead, the shoe adapts to the foot. The result: greater comfort, more stability, and a much more natural feel with every step.

And this is where something fundamental comes in: the last . Because for a sandal to be truly respectuf, the base on which it's built must follow the natural shape of the foot. That's why at MEXAS we go one step further with the new FLOR last.

1. Big toe alignment: why it's important in barefoot sandals

One of the most important aspects of a barefoot shoe is allowing the big toe can move straight, without turning inwards.

In the previous last, the toe could be slightly displaced.
In the new FLOR last, the big toe is aligned, natural, and without deformation . This improves posture and stability, and respects the foot's natural shape. If you're looking for truly respectful barefoot sandals for women, this detail makes all the difference.

2. More space in the metatarsals: wide toe box and natural expansion

Barefoot walking isn't just about wearing flat shoes. It's about allowing the foot to expand as it needs to.

We've widened the metatarsal area (the widest part of the foot, at the bunion), allowing for greater natural expansion and real comfort . The result: sandals with a wide toe box that allow freedom of movement without sacrificing style or support.

3. Zero drop: 100% flat sandals

We remain true to the essence of minimalist footwear:

• Completely flat
• No height difference between heel and toe

Barefoot footwear requires the foot to work naturally, and that is something we continue to respect.

4. New Microtech sole: more flexible, lighter

In 2025 we used a 4 mm rubber sole.
In 2026 we introduced a custom 5mm MEXAS Microtech sole .

Although it is 1 mm thicker, the material completely changes the experience, making it more: flexible, lighter, soft and adaptable to movement.

Microtech (similar to a more porous EVA) allows the sandal to flex better and promotes more natural contact between the foot and the ground. In barefoot footwear, flexibility is more important than thickness.

5. Better ankle support: real stability

Proper support is essential in barefoot sandals.

In 2025, we saw that, in some cases, the fit could be improved. That's why this year we've redesigned the structure with a higher upper and a more precise fastening system to offer greater stability and security while walking.

Because a responsible sandal should not only be comfortable, it should also be safe.
