Why we're giving you a trip to Mexico
There are decisions that change your life without you even realizing it. For me (Jess), one of the most important was leaving Spain and moving to Mexico. A Galician woman in Mexico... who would have thought! And once there, another of those small decisions that marked me was buying a pair of huaraches at a local market. They were simple, comfortable, handmade... and, although I didn't know it at the time, they were the first step toward what MEXAS is today. And what does all this have to do with treating yourself to a trip to Mexico? Keep reading and you'll understand.
I moved to CDMX in 2017 :)
The first step on an unexpected path
I lived in Mexico City for a little over two years. It's a gigantic city—with more than 20 million people—but the funny thing is that the neighborhoods I liked most (Roma, Condesa, Reforma, Zócalo, etc.) are easily walkable. The journeys take half an hour, an hour at most, and the city is fairly flat, with sunshine almost every day. I walked a lot: from home to the office, from work to the markets, and then wandering around the streets of Roma or Condesa. I spent all day walking. So, I obviously needed comfortable shoes.

One day I bought some huaraches at the Ciudadela crafts market. No posturing. They were simple, but handmade, and they seemed perfect. They stayed with me for months. And without realizing it, that was the first step of MEXAS.

MEXAS was born while walking, exploring a vast city that seemed imposing at first, but over time became home. It emerged from conversations, friendships, and the colors and textures you only find in Mexican markets. It is, ultimately, a tribute to those places, to the people who make them possible, and to everything they told us without words.
Eating some street tacos with my friends Tati and Lau, who I met there and became my family.
And that's why I wanted to close the circle by sharing what left the most lasting impression on me: the experience of being there. This trip to Mexico City and Oaxaca isn't just a reward. It's a way to share everything that inspired MEXAS from the very beginning.

How MEXAS was born
Some time after buying my first huaraches, talking with my best friend Borja, we began to imagine what it would be like to create a footwear brand inspired by that mix of comfort, color, tradition... and that's how MEXAS was born: half heart in Mexico, half in Spain.
When Borja came to see me in Mexico to look for huaraches suppliers - 2019
It wasn't easy. We had to learn from scratch how artisanal production worked, contact suppliers, understand the lasts, the materials, the processes. But there was one thing we were clear about from day one: we wanted anyone who put on a pair of MEXAS to feel the same way I felt the first time I walked through the city in those huaraches. Light, free, connected.

And why Oaxaca?
Although it's not where we produce our huaraches, for me, Oaxaca is the capital of Mexican craftsmanship. It's a place that moves you. The colors, the markets, the looms, the alebrijes, the rugs, the hands that create each piece… It's impossible not to feel like you're in a special place.

When I thought about this giveaway, I was crystal clear: the trip had to be to Mexico City and Oaxaca . Because of everything those places mean to the history of MEXAS. But also because I want whoever wins this trip to experience it the way I did: as a transformative, fun, discovery-filled, and, above all, human experience.
On the trajineras of Xochimilco with my best friend who came to visit, a coworker, who ended up becoming my husband, and his sister (now my sister-in-law). The twists and turns life takes are crazy!
It's not just any tourist trip
Just last year, Vero (oh.mamiblue) wrote to me telling me she was going on a trip to Mexico. I was delighted to send her a couple of MEXAS cards, and she took some beautiful photos with them during her stay. This year, I suggested we repeat the experience, but with a twist: we organize a raffle together to give away that same trip.

That's why we've prepared an itinerary designed to help you see as much as possible in 8 days, but also to make you feel like you're part of our history.
You'll see the pyramids of Teotihuacán, paint your own alebrije, visit colorful markets, eat delicious food, learn how rugs are made in Teotitlán, see the petrified waterfalls of Hierve el Agua, visit a mezcalería... And if you prefer to take it easy and spend more days in Mexico City or Oaxaca, that's also what you need. It's a trip to experience however you want, within the rhythm and style of Mexico City. Thanks to Evaneos, who took care of the complete itinerary.
